Recent concerns have linked certain plastic synthetic fibers—often laced with hidden chemicals—to serious health issues, including infertility, obesity, and even cancer. It is overwhelming and, frankly, scary. These are hard questions to ask, and unfortunately, many in the hair industry choose to stay silent.

Not All Synthetic Wigs Are Created Equal

The term "synthetic" covers a wide range of plastics. To understand the safety of your wig, you have to look at the specific fiber used:

The Danger of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)

Many budget-friendly synthetic wigs are made with PVC. This is a rigid plastic that often requires "plasticizers" (phthalates) to make it soft enough to mimic hair. PVC can release harmful chemicals and gases, especially when heated with styling tools or damaged over time.

The SPARX Standard: High-Quality PET

While we are actively researching and testing sustainable, non-toxic alternatives like hemp, bamboo, and soy fibers, the technology isn't yet able to perfectly mimic the structure of human hair.

Currently, our heat-friendly synthetic hair is made with Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). This is a high-quality polyester that is widely considered a much safer, more stable option than PVC.
