The wig that started a revolution. Born from real life, our patent-pending Headband Wig was pioneered by our founder Allison — a woman living with Alopecia Universalis — who believed you should never have to choose between comfort, security, and style.
Traditional wigs were holding women back. Scratchy lace, hard plastics, and caps that felt more like helmets than hair. So we started over. The Headband Wig is built on a buttery-soft, brushed jersey knit base — the same thoughtful engineering you'd find in elite activewear — that stretches, breathes, and within 20 minutes gently molds to the unique contours of your head for a fit that feels like it was made just for you. Because it is.
Wear it to the gym, to yoga, through the rain, in the sauna, to bed — this wig keeps up without skipping a beat. No glue, no adhesive, no slipping. Just soft, secure, beautiful hair that moves freely with your life.
Available in two styles — long and bob — and in three hair types across eleven signature shades, so you can find the perfect match for who you are and how you live.

CRANIAL PROSTHESIS FAQ
A cranial prosthesis is the official medical term for a wig designed specifically for patients suffering from hair loss. While you may hear terms like hair prosthesis, scalp prosthesis, or medical wig, they all refer to the same thing: a functional device intended to protect the scalp and restore the wearer's appearance during medical treatment.
Technically, no. The alternative hair industry is unregulated, which means any brand can categorize their wigs as medical grade. This creates an overwhelming and frustrating shopping experience for consumers. In general, the industry to broken up into two segments:
- Hair Replacement: These are often hairpieces that are bonded on. They are typically custom-sized, semi-permanent pieces that require a professional to glue or tape them to your scalp. While they do feel secure, they are often expensive, very time-consuming to maintain, and the adhesives often irritate the scalp causing sensitivities.
- Ready-to-Wear: These are mass-produced fashion or costume wigs. While budget-friendly, they are often "one-size-fits-all," itchy, and can look unnatural.
The Sparx Difference: We believe a true cranial prosthesis should offer the security and realism of a custom unit with the convenience of a ready-to-wear wig. Our wHAIRables feature athletic-grade breathable and stretchable materials and our made to be hyper-realisitic.
Most insurance companies follow Medicare guidelines and currently, Medicare does not cover wigs, but there is active legislation (House Bill H.R. 4034 and Senate Bill S. 1922) aiming to change this. Please take action - sign and support these bills.
However, many private plans do provide coverage if you follow these specific steps:
Step 1: Verify Your Coverage
Call your provider and ask these specific questions:
- Does my policy cover a cranial prosthesis (Code A9282 or S8095)?
- What medical diagnoses (e.g., alopecia, radiation) qualify for coverage?
- Is there a cap on the reimbursement amount?
- Do I need an "out-of-network" claim form?
Step 2: Get the Right Prescription
When visiting your doctor, the terminology used is the difference between a "yes" and a "no" from your insurance company.
- Avoid the word "wig": Ensure your doctor writes the prescription for a "Cranial Prosthesis."
- Include Diagnosis Codes: Ensure the prescription includes your specific medical diagnosis code.
- Letter of Medical Necessity: Ask your doctor to sign a brief letter explaining that the prosthesis is for your emotional and physical well-being, not for cosmetic vanity.
Step 3: Submit for Reimbursement
Since Sparx Hair is considered an out-of-network provider under the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) category, you will typically pay upfront and file for reimbursement.
- Save Your Receipt: We provide a detailed PDF receipt upon purchase.
- Provider Info: Use Encelia Hair LLC as the provider name. (Contact us at help@sparxhair.com for our NPI or Tax ID).
- Include Photos: Some companies require a photo of your hair loss to prove the claim is medically related.
TAXES, SAVINGS, AND FINANCIAL SAVINGS FAQs
Yes! A cranial prosthesis is a qualifying medical expense. You can typically use your HSA or FSA funds to pay for your unit (up to $2,500 in many cases).
If your total uncompensated medical expenses exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income, the cost of your medical wig is generally tax-deductible. Consult with a tax professional to confirm.
While every plan varies, we have found that Ambetter, Oscar, ChampVa, and TriCare are more likely to offer coverage for cranial prosthetics.
If insurance is not an option, reach out to the American Cancer Societyor the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF). Many local hospitals also host "wig banks" for patients in need.
CHOOSING YOUR HAIR TYPE FAQs
At SPARX®, we don't believe in "good, better, best." We believe in finding the fiber that matches your daily rhythm. Whether you are choosing our Gripper, Stretch Lace, Headband cap, here is everything you need to know about our two hair types.
We provide three distinct options designed to fit different budgets and maintenance styles:
- European Human Hair: The ultimate luxury. Fine, silky, and incredibly long-lasting.
- Premium Remy Human Hair: The "Goldilocks" of hair—durable, natural movement, and mid-range thickness.
- Luxury Synthetic (European Replica): A high-tech fiber designed to mimic the movement of fine European hair without the maintenance of human hair.
We use Denier (the thickness of individual strands) to help you match the look you’re used to seeing in the mirror:
- FINE Hair: European & Luxury Synthetic. An exact replica of fine, silky hair with high movement and fluidity.
- MEDIUM Hair: Premium Remy Human Hair. A natural, "all-rounder" hair that isn't too thick or too fine that it breaks.
- THICK Hair: Heat-Friendly Synthetic. Maximum "oomph" and volume for a full-bodied look.
Longevity depends on the hair, how often you wear it and the care. For daily wearers, here is what you can expect with proper maintenance:
- European & Remy Human Hair: 1.5 – 2 Years
- Luxury Synthetic: 1 – 1.5 Years
- Heat-Friendly Synthetic: 6 – 8 Months
Yes. We believe you should never have to sacrifice your personal style. All of our hair options—including our synthetics—are heat-styleable. You can use curling irons or flat irons to customize your look just like you would with natural hair.
Identify your "Hair Personality" below to find your perfect match:
- The Stylist: "I love the ritual of styling and want the ability to custom-color my hair."Your Match: European or Remy Human Hair. It offers the ultimate realism and responds exactly like natural hair to dyes and tools.
- The Color Perfectionist: "I hate it when my hair color fades or 'oxidizes' in the sun."Your Match: Luxury Synthetic. It holds its color perfectly over time and keeps its style even in high humidity or rain.
- The "Wash & Wear" Pro: "I want a high-quality look with zero fuss."Your Match: Heat-Friendly Synthetic. It’s budget-friendly and stays styled through multiple washes—just "shake and go."
"Remy" hair refers to Remy human hair - it means that the cuticles are kept intact and they all go in the same direction.
The Pro-Tip Test: Run your fingers down a strand (it should feel smooth) and then back up (it should feel slightly rough). If you feel that slight resistance going up, you know the cuticle is present, ensuring your hair won't tangle or mat easily.

Returns & Special Orders FAQ
What is your return policy?
We want you to love your look! We gladly accept returns on items that are unworn, unwashed, and unaltered. We understand that you might need to lightly mist a wig with water or use a blow dryer to see how it sits—that’s perfectly fine. However, to be eligible for a return, the piece must remain in its original condition. This means:
- No cutting the lace or hair.
- No washing or chemical treatments.
- No styling products (hairspray, gels, etc.).
What counts as a "Special" or "Pre" order?
A special or preorder is any item that is not part of our standard, in-stock inventory. This typically includes:
- Specific sizes requested that are not currently in stock.
- Pieces with "custom" requests or modifications.
Why are special or pre orders non-returnable?
Because these items are tailored to your specific needs, they are very difficult for a small business to resell. For this reason, Special Orders must be paid for in advance and are final sale. We simply cannot hold "custom" inventory that we can't offer to other customers.
